Bear Attack: Steiff new editions 2001

Club:
	Steiff Club Gift 2001, is a white miniature bear measuring 7 cm which comes in a box with certificate. He is fully jointed, has black eyes and his nose is stitched in a strawberry color. Other issues in this series are a blond (1997), blue (1998), dark-brown (1999), black (2000), light brown (2002), rosé (2003), light blue (2004) and Little Richard (2005). 	Teddy bear 1950 dark brown is 35 cm in size, excelsior stuffed, made out of mohair plush and comes with a squeaker. He has jointed arms, legs and head. Wears a porcelain pendant on a bright red taffeta bow and a gold plated button in his ear. He comes in a box with certificate of authenticity. The edition size announced by Steiff is 5950. 	Growling bear 1934 dark brown, striding is 17 cm in size and is made according to the first bear designs by Richard Steiff, which are dated well before 1900. He is not jointed but excelsior stuffed and made out of mohair plush. Wears a porcelain pendant, has a squeaker and a gold plated button in his ear. He comes in a box with certificate of authenticity. The edition size announced by Steiff is 4500. EAN 420252

	The German Event Bear 2001 was only available at special Steiff club events. He is made out of blond mohair, 18 cm in size, has a white ear-tag. He has a white ribbon around his waist which has the name of the event he was issued for printed on it. He is limited to 3200 pieces, does not have a certificate and does not come in a box. *Festival Specials:*
	Sandey is the 5th special for the Steiff Festival and is the first in a new series. He comes in an edition of 3000 pieces, is made of grey-blue long-haired mohair, 30 cm in size, has a light grey colored bib and a growler. His nose and claws are hand stitched using black yarn. "5. Steiff Festival - Giengen 2001" is embroidered on the sole of his left foot. He comes with a small certificate of authenticity but does not have a box. Further issues in this series are Candey (2002), Daddey (2003) and Mommey (2004). EAN 655579

	Lobster 1963, has been produced in an edition of 500 pieces at the Steiff Festival in Giengen Germany. He is 28 cm in size and comes with a small certificate but without a box. EAN 670954

	This Goebel-Steiff set called Chimney Sweep, consists out of a 10 cm Hummel Chimneysweep figurine and a 14 cm Steiff pig and is limited to 2000 sets. The pig has "Guten Rutsch!" embroidered on it which means "Happy New Year". It comes with a certificate and in a box. This is the fourth in a series, other ones issued are Christmas Tree (1998), Frosty Friends (1999), Little Maestro (2000) and Me And My Shadow (2002). EAN 995002

	Disney Pluto ornament is 16 cm in size and limited to 1930 pieces. He wears a red velvet collar and got a red cord so you can hang him on the Christmas tree; soles are painted with an airbrush technique. Pluto made his film debut in 1930 in "The Chain Gang". Later on he was frequently found in the company of Minnie until he eventually became Mickey's dog and faithful friend. Together, many different adventures were to be had, new experiences to be made, the world to be explored. Comes in a box with certificate of authenticity. 	Winnie the Pooh ornament is 12 cm in size, made out of mohair woven fur and limited to 6700 pieces. Comes with a box and certificate of authenticity. 	Libby Bear is an artwork of Pop-Art star James Rizzi which is exclusively done for ars mundi. This bear is the first artist-teddy designed as an original artist multiple and produced in genuine mohair. Since 1999 James Rizzi has been working on the designs to transfer the statue of Liberty, called just "Libby" in New York, to an enchanting Bear edition. The shocking terror attacks of September 11th gave this long planned edition unwanted actuality: the "Libby Bear" is a sign for freedom and justice in the entire democratic world. He is 34 cm high and worldwide limited on only 2001 pieces. He wears a necklace with the original Rizzi Bird pendant, has the artist signature embroidered on one of his feet and comes in a box with a certificate of authenticity. No. 1 of this edition just has been auctioned live on the German TV: More than EURO 5.000,- have been offered and paid, the amount has been donated to international Children Aid Organizations. 	The Viessmann Polar Bear is soft and cuddly with his brilliant white woven fur coat. He is 22 cm tall, has a gold-plated "Button in Ear" and a Viessmann product id around one of his legs. 	Fulda Husky is 16 cm in size and limited to 1500 pieces. He was produced especially for Fulda tires. The Husky is made out of woven fur, has a white muzzle and wears a red dog cover. 	This LGB set - comprising the locomotive that emits real steam and makes realistic sounds and the Steiff train driver - is limited to just 1,000 sets. The cab is manned by a beary train driver: a 6 cm tall hand-made Teddy bear with 'sooty' grey mohair fur, wearing the typical cap and gloves. This locomotive can be used to pull the other wagons issued in this series, i.e. a yellow train wagon with blond and brown Teddy bears (1997), a red train wagon with black & white Teddy bears (1999), a black/yellow train wagon with light blue and rose Teddy bears (2001) and Teddy Roosevelt wagon with white and gold Teddy bears (2002). 	The "Steiff Teddy bear maker" comes from the Erzgebirge mountain region in Eastern Germany and is made by the Christian Ulbricht Holzkunst company which is Europe's leading manufacturer of nutcrackers. This 45 cm tall nutcracker has been made according to the traditional art of wood carving and has been creatively outfitted as a typical turn-of-the-century designer of Steiff Teddy bears. He holds a 16 cm tall Teddy bear made of gold-blond mohair. This set is a limited edition of 1,500 nutcrackers/bears, does not come in a special box and does not have a certificate. 	The fourth LGB train wagon is yellow in color and on it sit two bears: mother Teddy and her child. Both of the bears - the child 6 cm tall, the mother 16 cm tall - are made of finest mohair, the larger is a light blue one on a sofa and the smaller is a rose bear in a crib. 	The Craftsman Bear "Bosch" is a promotional article for the German Firm Bosch. He is 35 cm in size, not limited and made out of blond woven fur. The craftsman is dressed in a blue overall and wears a cap. Does not have a certificate and does not come in a box. EAN 995484

	To celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the company, Schulte issued this Steiff bear called Reinhard. He is 35cm in size and limited to 1500 pieces. Schulte is a world renown producer of mohair and Steiff is one of its customers. His right paw is embroidered with "Schulte 100 Jahre" and he carries as well a tag from the company Schulte. 	The German Cancer Society issued an unlimited version of their mascot Maari, the Prince of the Children's Cancer Society. Maari is not jointed, is 25 cm in size and does not come in a box or with a certificate. In 1997 a first unlimited version of this mascot had been released and a limited version of this mascot in 30 cm was issued in 1999. EAN 995897

	Teddy bear 1907 is made out of brass mohair woven fur and is excelsior stuffed. He comes with a hot water bottle, is limited to 3000 pieces and 50 cm in size. He has a gold-plated button and comes in a box with certificate. A 58 cm version of this bear was produced in 2008. EAN 406621

	Teddy baby 1949 is made out of a maize mohair woven fur and is excelsior stuffed. Comes with collar and a small bell. Is limited to 1500 pieces and 75 cm in size. Special Asia:
	The Asian Santa 2001 is a special edition for Australia, China, Hong Kong , Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Taiwan. He is 25 cm in size, made out of snow-white mohair and is limited to 1500 pieces only. On the Teddy bear's left foot sole appears the embroidery "Christmas 2001" in red. A red velour's coat with white mohair trimming keeps Santa Claus from freezing on his long journey to old and young friends of Steiff. Comes in a box with certificate of authenticity. This is the first in a series of Asian Santa's. It is assumed that this series will be continued over the next years. EAN 675560

Special Australia:
	"Penny" The Federation Teddy Bear, is 35 cm in size, made out of red-brown mohair, jointed and limited to 2000 pieces. He carries an original Copper Penny as medallion on a blue-white-red ribbon. On his paws is on the left "Penny 1901-2001" and on the right the Australian Flag embroidered. For over 40,000 years Australia's sole occupants were its indigenous population until European settlement in 1788. Discoveries of silver, gold, copper and other minerals, plus a prospering agricultural industry, had, by the 1880's, created six booming colonies set apart by the vast distances of Australia. Despite the distances between the colonies a common sense of unity began to emerge which was expressed in a wish to unite the separate colonies into a single federation. And, so, in 1901 the aspirations of a young and vital country propelled the six states into a popularly elected federation: The Commonwealth of Australia. The Penny is in remembrance of this fact. Special Austria:
	Klimtbear, the Austria exclusive, is 36 cm in size and limited to 1500 pieces. Vienna was enjoying an age of creative intellectual ascendancy around 1900. True to the motto of the time - "To every time its art, to every art its freedom" - the Austria exclusive is dedicated to one of the most important representatives of this era: Gustav Klimt, the "golden artist of the Viennese Art Nouveau". This Teddy bear is made of the finest gold-blond mohair plush. The signature of Gustav Klimt has been embroidered onto his right foot sole in gold-colored silk. The Teddy's Art Nouveau pendant shows Gustav Klimt's most famous painting - "The Kiss" - lavishly printed using 17 different colors including gold and platinum. 	The Johann Nestroy 200th anniversary bear is issued for two reasons. First to celebrate the opening of the Steiff Galleria in Vienna and secondly to celebrate the 200th Birthday of Johann Nestroy a famous Austrian poet and actor. Part of the proceeds are used to help young actors in need. The bear is 35 cm, unlimited, made out of white mohair and has a blue ribbon around his neck which states: "Johann Nestroy 200. Geburtstag". He does not have a box or certificate. EAN 994944

Special Belgium:
	The Ambao Chocolate Belgium Bear Set contains two 23 cm in size bears. The bears are made out of a brown and dark brown (light milk chocolate brown and dark brown chocolate) mohair and come in a satin-lined wooden display box with certificate of authenticity. On the box is written in golden letters "Belgium 2001" with the emblems of Steiff and Ambao. The bears paws are embroidered with right "Ambao" and left "Belgium 2001". "Ambao": registered by the Belgian State at the end of the year 2000 and managed by the "Traditional & Quality Chocolate Association". This label certifies the acquisition of a chocolate made of an unique vegetable fat: the cocoa butter in strict conformity to extremely severe quality requirements. Special China:
	The Chinese Scholar bear, limited to 1500 pieces, is made out of a genuine mohair in an antique white color and is 30 cm in size. In the long Chinese history, this scholar was greatly respected and admired by the country. He earned such high esteem as he placed first in the Imperial public examination, which was an entrance exam for a scholar to be admitted to the Imperial Court. Such success was achieved through years of intensive study in Chinese literary books and teachings. Usually he also excelled in writing, poetry and calligraphy. He symbolizes intelligence and diligence of a scholar. The Teddy bear's right foot sole is lavishly embroidered with the Chinese wording for "Margarete Steiff" in form of the traditional red stamp that stands for the signature of the calligraphy's artist. Original Chinese calligraphy instruments such as painting brushes and ink-stone complete this extraordinary edition that comes in a beautiful, customized Chinese gift box with certificate of authenticity. 	The Gold digger is issued for the German toy-chain called "Idee + Spiel". This bear is dark blond, 27 cm in size and limited to 1500 pieces. He carries a pick axe, a gold nugget (made out of plastic) and a leather sack. He wears a dark brown cowboy hat and a red/white checkered neckerchief. 	The Gentian - Enzian Teddy bear is actual a special edition for Austria, Germany and Switzerland. He comes in a limitation of 1500 pieces and is 38 cm in size. On both of the soles of his paws is an Gentian embroidered. Wears a silk neckerchief which again has the Gentian on it. He comes in a box with certificate. This is the second one in a series of bears dedicated to mountain flowers. Other ones issued are Edelweiss (2000), Alpine rose - Almrausch (2002), Carline Thistle - Silberdistel (2003), Snowdrop - Schneegloeckchen (2004) and Alpine Poppy - Alpenmohn Teddy bear (2005). 	The Munich Oktoberfest Bear is made out of blond mohair, limited to 2000 pieces and 30 cm in size. He is dressed in Lederhosen and has a typical Oktoberfest felt hat on his head. Carries in one of his paws a little beer mug. His paws are embroidered with "Prost München" on one side and the coat of arms from Bavaria on the other side. 	The Heidelberg Bear is made out of light brown tipped mohair, is issued in a limitation of 2000 pieces and is 30 cm in size. He wears a medallion on a red ribbon around his neck. On the medallion is a picture of the famous Heidelberg castle. Both of his paws are embroidered. The bear has a music box which plays the world famous German song: "Ich hab mein Herz in Heidelberg verloren" (I lost my heart in Heidelberg). 	The King Ludwig Bear with Swan is limited to 1500 pieces. The bear is 35 cm and the swan 18 cm in size. Both pieces are made out of white mohair. The bear represents Ludwig II., with a blue coat of velvet, lined in white & golden embroidered. The swan wears a imitation golden crown. The set comes in a box with certificate of authenticity. 	Steiff Museum Bear 2001 is made out of cinnamon mohair and 32 cm in size. Has a porcelain medallion from the Steiff Museum in Giengen around his neck. He could only be obtained at the Steiff museum in Giengen Germany in 2001. He is limited to 1700 pieces, comes with a certificate but without box. This is the fourth one issued in this series. 	The Steiff Galerie bear 2001 is a bear issued especially for the Steiff Gallerias in Germany. He is 30 cm in size, comes in an edition of 2000 pieces, is made out of white mohair and comes only with a certificate (no box). He wears a ribbon around his neck with a porcelain medallion. This is the second one issued in this series. Other bears issued in this series are blond (2000), reddish-brown (2002), rose (2003), gold (2004), blond (2005), brass (2006) and golden (2007). 	The Mountaineer Teddy Bear is limited to 2000 pieces, 29 cm in size and is dressed in a typical mountaineer outfit. He comes with a small certificate but without a box. EAN 670787

	This Bear in a Boat set is limited to 2000 pieces. The bear is 9 cm, wears a marine blue felt cap and scarf. The boat is made out of wood and is named the "Loreley". This set is a nice addition to the Loreley bear issued in 2000. The set comes with a small certificate of authenticity but without a box. EAN 670800

	X-MAS ornament "Gingerbread" is 10 cm in size and limited to 5000 pieces. This ornament is almost exactly the same as last years USA exclusive "Gingerbread". It differs only in the fact that he has three different colored buttons whereas the USA one had three red buttons. Comes with box and certificate. A Xmas Ornament has been issued every year from 1996 until 2001. From 2002 onwards there was no special German Xmas Ornament anymore which was replaced by World Wide Xmas Ornament edition and it is assumed that this series will be continued over the next years. 	The Ronald McDonald, Teddy bear Dicky 1935 blond, is limited to 200 pieces only and was only available to Japanese Takara Steiff club members. He is 25 cm and made out of blond mohair woven fur. This bear is not a new edition but they took 200 from the Dicky 1935 blond, EAN 407581, issued in 2000 and just dressed him. Neither does he come with his own box or certificate, they just used the original box and certificate from the Dicky 1935 blond. EAN 407581

	The Hagoita Teddy Rose with fan is 40 cm and limited to 200 pieces only. The bear is the same as the Teddy Rose that was issued in 1999 for Japan, EAN 675270. The only difference is the fan. Hagoita is a traditional Japanese Batominton which is played with at New Year. Also used as display with many accessories in Japanese homes during the New Year holiday season. This bear comes, as its original, in a nice wooden display box and with its original certificate of authenticity (no special certificate for this limited edition). EAN 675270

	Little Santa 2001 is 20 cm in size, limited to 2500 pieces, made out of a light brown colored mohair and comes in a nice wooden presentation case with certificate of authenticity. Dressed in beautiful clothes made out of classic green velvet with metallic gold spots which looks a bit like a decorated Christmas tree. On his right paw has he "2001" embroidered in gold. 	The Moon Princess - Kaguya Hime is a 27 cm white bear which comes in a special bamboo gift box. The design is based on a Japanese Traditional Story. 	The Windmill Bear, a white-blue tipped mohair bear, is the exclusive for the Netherlands. He wears a porcelain medallion which has a picture of a Dutch windmill in the famous Dutch Delfts Blue colors. The bear has a music box, which plays a Dutch windmill song: "Het Plekje bij de Molen" (the place by the mill). On his left paw is "Holland 2001" embroidered. 	Victor with Swiss army knife is the Swiss exclusive. He is a light-grey curly plush bear which comes with a world-famous Swiss army knife from the Victorinox knife factory which even has an integrated ball-point pen and a miniature torch - in a specially made penknife holder. He wears a red headband that has the Swiss coat of arms embroidered on it. The bears is 34 cm and limited to 2001 pieces. He comes in a velvet bag with certificate of authentication. Special Taiwan:
	Lu Teddy bear, is 31 cm in size, made out of golden yellow tipped mohair and limited to 1500 pieces. His right paw is lavishly embroidered with a beautiful golden "Yuan-Bao". The Taiwan Lu bear wears a stylish crystal ornament, whose design is originated from the ancient Chinese coin called "Yuan-Bao"; that is a symbol for wealth in Chinese culture, and is hanged by handcrafted traditional Chinese art knot. The glossy crystal is made by professional designers of HSIANG HUNG INTERNATIONAL CO., LTD. He comes in a nicely embroidered Chinese style brocade bag. This set comes with two certificates one for the bear and for the crystal. Both certificates have the same limited edition number. Fu, Lu, Shou (Felicity, Wealth, Longevity) are the so called "3 stars of luck" in the Chinese culture, which represent the wishes of perfect life. 	In 1895 English author Florence Upton published a series of books on the tales of one very special 'Character doll' the Golly. The wonderful tales and adventures of Golly received huge popularity. This set consists out of a Steiff bear which was previous issued by FAO Schwarz as "Sleepy Keep" and a suitcase that was available with the "USA Passport Bear". 	James Cash Penney opened his first "Golden Rule Store" in Kemmerer, Wyoming, in 1902. That same year, the first toy bear with moveable arms and legs was shown by Richard Steiff at the Leipzig Toy Fair. "James" commemorates the 100th anniversary of the JCPenney Company and the 100th anniversary of the teddy bear with JCPenney 100th Anniversary Bear. His black vest and armbands, and brass-rimmed glasses are typical turn-of-the century shopkeeper attire. A reproduction of James C. Penney's signature is embroidered on the right hand paw and 100th anniversary is embroidered on the left foot paw. The bear is 38 cm in size and includes a certificate of authenticity. 	This Black Cat is especially produced for the USA internet shop called Martha Stewart Living. He is 15 cm in size, made out of mohair and limited to 1500 pieces. Steiff produced in 1903 as a novelty a "Tom Cat", striking in silhouette with an arched back. This cat became extremely popular in the United States and was much in demand at Halloween time. This Black Cat has been modeled after this original version. It comes with a small certificate of authenticity but does not come in a box.
